About Recreation Unlimited

Recreation Unlimited currently serves over 2,700 individuals with disabilities representing up to 14 physical and developmental disability groups from 44 counties in Ohio and five surrounding states.  Recreation Unlimited is the largest provider in the state of Ohio serving individuals with disabilities in the area of sports, recreation and education with the most comprehensive and quality program offerings.

The year-round 195-acre, wheelchair accessible campus features three major residence halls, a private cottage for retreats, multi-purpose lodge, life-time arts building, dining hall, outdoor pavilion, health services center and nurses quarters, outpost camp site, administrative and support buildings.  Outdoor sports facilities include an aquatic center, track and field, tennis and sports court, softball field, golf hole, 25 ft. tree climb, two challenge courses and a 50 ft. Each year the Delaware-Morrow Mental Health and Recovery Services Board provides funding for mental health and substance abuse prevention and treatment services. These prevention and treatment services save lives, work to keep our kids off drugs and alcohol, help keep families together, help people return to work, and make our community a better place to live.

Through a network of providers of care, services available to the community include:

  • Crisis services offering help and assistance 24 hours a day to those experiencing especially difficult times;
  • Counseling for children and adults with mental health and/or alcohol and other drug needs;
  • Shelter and services for victims of domestic violence;
  • Alcohol and other drug prevention, awareness and education services for school children and residents;
  • Community-based support services and safe housing for persons with disabilities;

Bridges to Independence was founded in 1999 by Chris Ritchie and Bunny Ambro, who bring a combined 30 years of experience in providing quality I/O Waiver, Supported Living, and Level One services to people with developmental disabilities in Delaware and Franklin Counties. Our agency currently provides services to approximately 111 people in Crawford, Delaware, Franklin, Marion,  Morrow, Licking, and Richland counties that range from a couple of hours each week providing assistance with banking, shopping or getting out in the community; to spending a few hours each day assisting with daily living skills or getting ready for work; to 24 hour supports to assist with daily living needs and the opportunity to live independently. We provide transportation to and from appointments, shopping and recreation.
